Burren blooms at CWA’s fabulous flower show

On Sunday, September 21 the Burren Junction School of Arts Hall was brimming with goodness from local gardens for the popular Country Women’s Association’s annual Flower Show and Market Day.

From native blooms to delicate ranunculus, glorious roses and colourful geraniums – the hall looked absolutely fabulous, and its floral fragrance was just as good.

There were also some eye-catching and clever creations in the recycled section as well as stunning photo competition displays. The talented photography entrants not only captured the beauty of classic Burren scenes, such as harvest time, but also some sensational shots from trips away and fantastic profile photos of local characters, adorable children and much-loved pets.

Laundromat Opens in Burren Junction

Burren Junction will have its own laundromat, thanks to an idea while holidaying up north.  Bill Schwager decided that a laundromat was needed in Burren to service trucks and farmers during harvest time and the Burren Bore during the winter months.  Also, to service all in the local area, from Wee Waa to Walget, Rowena, and Pilliga, as well.  Services include self-service washers for $6 and dryers for $6.  All new 10-kilo machines, 2 washers and 2 dryers. Also available is a drop-off and pick-up service for bags of washing, which will be washed, dried and folded for those who do not have the time to do it themselves. Burren Laundromat will be open 7 days, 8 am to 5 pm. Feel free to contact Bill on 0429967243 for further information.

Hailstorm hits Burren Junction: roofs damaged as SES and VRA crews respond

By Kate Schwager | Burren Junction | 7 November 2025

A sudden storm swept through Burren Junction on Friday afternoon, around 7.30pm, 7 November, leaving several homes damaged and prompting a quick response from local SES and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) crews.

Residents reported strong winds and hailstones pelting the town during the brief but intense event. Several roofs were lifted or partially torn away, and fallen trees blocked parts of Inkerman and Hastings Streets, as well as nearby roads.

Walgett Shire Council confirmed its staff were back in Burren Junction over the weekend, assessing the damage and assisting in clean-up operations.

“It came through really fast — the hail was the size of golf balls,” one resident said. “You could hear it hammering on the roof, and then part of it just lifted.”

The Burren Junction VRA was called in to help secure homes, placing tarpaulins over damaged roofs and clearing debris on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Volunteers worked alongside council crews to make properties safe and prevent further water damage.
