Walgett is a town in northern NSW, Australia, it is the junction of the Barwon and Namoi Rivers and the Kamilaroi and Castlereagh Highways. It was inhabited by the Gamilaroi (also spelt Kamilaroi) Nation of Indigenous peoples before white settlement.

Walgett is a major highway junction for touring routes to the north Lightning Ridge, to the East Burren Junction and Wee Waa to the South Coonamble to the west Brewarrina.
The Walgett District is a producer of a variety of agricultural commodities including cotton, wheat, beef cattle and sheep and pulse crops.
Walgett is rich in history it was gazetted in 1859 and the courthouse built in 1865 it was a port for paddle steamers in 1861 to 1870. It was proclaimed 20 March 1885 and surveyed.

Burren’s Anglican Church Restoration Project.
The Edwin Charles Holcombe Family’s Memorial window , on the right, has been beautifully restored by Jeff Hamilton ‘Design Glass’, and reinstalled in the church. The Good Shepherd Window on the left which is collapsing, has been removed for safety, & stored until such time as funds are raised for its restoration..If anyone is interested in supporting this restoration, donations would be appreciated.. STRONG yields and minimal harvest disruptions have capped off a successful sorghum season on the Darling Downs.
An estimated 80 percent of the crop has been harvested across the Darling Downs and south to Goondiwindi, with only small volumes of later-planted sorghum remaining.
Harvest has wrapped up in northern New South Wales, where strong sorghum yields in pockets have helped offset a smaller planted area, while desiccation is under way on the Liverpool Plains.

Resigning from the position of general manager (GM) was a difficult decision for Megan Dixon, but one she felt she had to make.
"I loved my role and the community but it was a misalignment in terms of where I felt I needed to be," Ms Dixon said.
The Walgett Shire Council announced her resignation on Tuesday, 25 March.

Police have charged two men with numerous drugs and firearms offences in north-western New South Wales.
About 6.30am yesterday (Tuesday 25 March 2025) police from Central North Police District attached to Strike Force Meningie stopped and searched a vehicle on the Gwydir Highway, Collarenebri.
